[odf-discuss] Microsoft will now support ODF

I agree. I think this is very good news. This is what we have demanding
for ages. Now when someone sends a .odt file to an MSO user, MSO won't
say "file unknown".

What *we* need to do between now and then is help with the test suite
project under the leadership of Rob Weir. Create a standard of what it
means to support ODF. Come next year, to the extent that MSO fails to
pass the conformance tests, we can tell them that they haven't yet
fulfilled their promise, and the European Union will agree with that. To
the extent that the test suite is easy to pass because it is incomplete,
MS will be able to reasonably claim that they conform to ODF because
they pass the conformance test.

The EU will be keeping a close eye on the development of Microsoft's ODF
support:

Now what we need to do is make sure that there is a good quality test
suite to evaluate Microsoft's conformance.

Daniel.
