Lars,

This is an idea I've been shopping around. Last week (or maybe the week
before?) we had a discussion of it on this list. Maybe you can find the
full threat in the archives, or maybe buried in your inbox.

Essentially, the idea is to create a new effort at OASIS called the "ODF
Implementation, Interoperability and Compliance TC". It would own all the
technical pieces related to interoperability, stuff that is beyond the
charter of the ODF TC. So, test suites, interoperability guides,
implementation guides, etc. The need for a test suite seemed high on the
list, based on the discussions we had here. Additionally, when we probed
deeper, we found that there were at least three kinds of test suites that
were desirable:

1) Atomic (single feature) test suites, along the lines of the University
of Central Florida effort that the Fellowship now maintains.

2) Something along the lines of the ACID2 test, something public-facing,
that gives a strong message of what the state of interoperability is. A
challenge to implementors.

3) An interoperability test suite of real-world documents with real-world
complexity, including user errors.

I stated that I didn't want a "false start" with this effort, so I'm not
starting anything official at OASIS until I have lined up a critical mass
of participants, which I thought would around 6-9 people.

I'm also making a request within IBM to get some other commitments off my
plate so I can dedicate myself to this effort. I hope to have a go/no go
signal in another week or so.

-Rob
