Here's how I interpret it. The enthusiasm for adding or improving ODF
support for the N+1 word processor, decreases as N increases. I wouldn't
expect much excitement in a Google Summer of Code project for improving
ODF support in the 6th most popular ODF-supporting word processor.
Also, writing new code is always more fun than cleaning up existing code.
I'd expect in an self-selecting arrangement like Summer of Code, that most
project proposals will be for new projects, or adding new modules to
existing projects.
If I was entering a proposal, it would not be to improve ODF support for
Abi, although my enthusiasm for ODF is undoubted. Instead I would propose
to create some killer demos of what you can do with ODF 1.2 RDF metadata,
or something like that.
