Tss, every distribution shipped the Novell tree at one time because
Novell/Ximian took the lead on the Linux porting of OO.o. Fedora/Red
Hat was no different
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewcvs/devel/openoffice.org/openoffice.org.spec
explicitely mentions ooo-build, which is/was the Ximian/Novell
OpenOffice.org patchkit hosted at http://go-oo.org/
What is true is that Red Hat/Fedora dumped this patchkit as
radioactive junk as soon as SUN started being serious about Linux
support and Novell/Ximian fell in love with dubious IP-encumbered
MS-partnered projects.

One of those is not making any effort to communicate with third parties.
