No, not really. I should have put OT in the subject.
Sorry.
But this is an interesting case of distributed collaboration (Anonymous)
versus a very closed system (Scientology). There are a few distant
parallels. You could also say that FOSS is a case of distributed hackers
fighting against a closed monolith (Microsoft). In fact, if this becomes a
news story, IMHO, we should be prepared to distance ourselves from
Anonymous. All of the mainstream news media are picking up on it, and while
they are all uniformly critical of Scientology (except Fox) they are also
whipping up public fear of these shadowy "hackers" who are attacking
Scientology.
I generally try to make clear when I speak to people that I am opposed to
illegal copying; I am opposed to cracking; and I am opposed to DDOS attacks,
if those issues ever come up.
The other thing is that from what I am seeing on Digg, Anonymous seems to be
using GNU Linux and FreeBSD boxes to do their attacks on Scientology. I
personally do not what to get confused with that mess.
I would like to see Scientology go away, but this is dangerous and messy
stuff, IMHO. If it comes up in the press, I think we should be ready to
distance ourselves from it.
