In a nutshell:
- functional: in Excel, saving to .ODS works slightly different: you
have to install a plug-in and you have to click on another menu option.
Probably a small issue for a techie, but it can be very confusing for
non-techies. Saving to .XLSX, on the other hand, is built-in.
- technical: both Sun and Microsoft are constantly improving their
products but, say, saving a complex .doc to .odt isn't always
error-free.
Sometimes the result is (near-)perfect, sometimes it isn't.
