Folks on this list have suggested numerous policy or messaging positions for
the GNOME Foundation (with absolutely no stake in the matter, I'll note),
but what is the point of the GNOME Foundation making grand statements that
may bear no reflection on what our contributors (corporate, individual,
whatever) actually believe?

The point was that whatever the GNOME Foundation says, it may not reflect
the opinions of GNOME project members, contributors to the project (either
individuals or corporates), Advisory Board members, etc. It's not a matter
of opposition, it's a matter of relevance.
