Thanks for that link. I'd not been following Leopard. I wish the
support or announcement had come earlier. I won't be using Leopard, but
plan to follow it anyway.

That was my guess when requesting OpenDocument support in TextEdit. I
hope that they are able to follow through and provide full support for
the standard.
