A bot off topic but someone here might be able to answer this without
much effort :-)
Anyone use OpenOffice.org base or know of a FOSS database that solves
the problem below? I have to say I'm surprised that external data can't
be imported into Base, but then I don't use it and we deliberately
avoided file based databases in INGOTs because who uses them nowadays?
If anyone can help out can they e-mail
nesha.sadheura at icteducation-havering.org.uk
and cc me.
If we can solve this it might well help other schools migrate to OOo (or
other odf friendly software) with confidence.
"We have moved away from Microsoft Office to OpenOffice. We are
having problems trying to fulfil assessment criteria for AiDA/CiDA
database work in that we seem unable to validate or import data from an
external source using OpenOffice Base. Basically the problem is we have
to create a database structure including validation rules for coded
data. You could do this in Access when creating table using the
validation rule setting. There seems to be nothing similar in Open
Office Base. Secondly when you have created the data structure you have
to import a text data file and not rejected records that do not match
the validation rule. Again it does not seem possible to import external
data using Open Office Base."
