[odf-discuss] i-player

I remember that at one time the BBC went to inordinate lengths to avoid
advertisement by any means. For example, the US cartoon series 'Top Cat' was
renamed 'Boss Cat' to avoid 'advertising' the UK brand of pet food. A whole
generation of UK children were left confused as to why the title slide and
opening jingle lyrics didn't match... If I were still a UK resident I would
be very upset, therefore, to see the BBC leaving this tradition and
'boosting' Microsoft with iPlayer (and my licence fee) in this way.

The DRM issue seems to be a straw man. If I understand correctly, iPlayer is
being used to make available material already broadcast. So if someone
wanted a non - DRM copy, all they have to do is plug a satellite box into a
MythTV box... If the content producers are happy with this situation, why
the insistence on DRM with iPlayer?? DRM has no place in public service
broadcasting.
