Where is the present doubt? Doubt as to what Gary has said? Or whether
it is true?
I think Gary and Co. have repeatedly made the main points of their new
direction clear in blog comments, interviews, and numerous jeremiads on
their web site. Is there really any doubt as to what they are saying?
1) The Foundation believes that ODF has failed.
2) The Foundation will work to defeat ODF 1.2 in ISO.
3) The Foundation is dropping support for ODF and instead is moving to
support CDF
4) The Foundation says there is a large conspiracy against them, involving
Sun, IBM, in fact every company involved with ODF except (curiously)
Novell.
5) Everything else you hear are lies hatched by their enemies who are out
to destroy them.
Does anyone doubt that this is the essence of what the Foundation has been
saying?
As for whether it is true or not, if there are doubts then I think that
these accusations are of a magnitude for which one does not quickly give
"the benefit of the doubt", not even if he were the Pope.
Also remember that there are many people who have done a lot of work for
ODF, and all but three continue to do so. We should try to give the
others some benefit as well. Note that I'm not recommending a "You're
either for us or against us" mentality. That would be childish. But
the repeated statements from the Foundation go far beyond not being for
us. They are actively, publicly and loudly opposing ODF and evidently
taking great pleasure doing so. I don't give any benefit of the doubt for
that.
