Ryan,
I don't think anyone has any problem with Gary's or any of his team's
past contributions. In fact, many of us are very tolerant of new ideas -
we'd be hypocrites if we weren't - even if they conflict with our own.
The problem is simply that if Gary uses emotive language that discredits
and disrespects the Fellowship what do you expect us to do? We aren't
going to say "oh, that's fine just hit us some more". It seems to me
that Gary's team is 3 people, himself, Sam and Marbux. I personally have
had good dealings with all of them, I like them as people, and I was
certainly supportive of Sam when I thought he was badly treated in the
OOo community and the same for you. But I'm an advocate of ODF. My
reason? It's currently in my judgement the best chance of breaking the
MS monopoly and opening things up. Other people might have other reasons
and other views. Who knows, it might be a stepping stone to some sort of
CDF solution some time in the future and Gary et al working on that
possibility is up to them and how they want to deploy their resources.
No need to fall out over that. However, if Gary and his team try to
discredit and disrupt our efforts with odf he will have a fight on his
hands and he will most likely lose because odf has by far the greatest
backing. So let's agree to differ and respect each others' positions and
avoid the emotive and destructive in-fighting.
It would be nice for Gary to acknowledge this and agree to differ but
also to respect our position.
Regards,
Ian
