The fundamental difference is that IBM is a commercial for profit
multinational and Gnome is a foundation with completely different
corporate aims. This is rather like the child that claims to its dad
justification in doing something because some other kid at school did
it. The usual parental reply is if Johnny put his hand in the fire would
that justify you in doing it too? A member of the family gets considered
differently from others.
