Well,

  a) This has been said in public, on this list, in response to various
     interview questions, on GNOME mailing lists and even on Slashdot, if
     that even counts.

  b) We've stated that the GNOME Foundation is going to release a statement
     because of all this ruckus (notably caused by the ODF and FLOSS world,
     not Microsoft).

  c) However public we make it, there are those who will disagree (for good
     and informed reasons, or foolish and uninformed reasons). We're not
     going to stop that just by stating our case, as evidenced on this list.
