I agree with the rest of your message, beginning with the "pardon my
french" part. Personally, I had already arrived to almost all the same
conclusions.

The purpose of this request was to make sure that I wasn't missing
something and to find out if maybe the same issue has already been
discussed in some online magazine or semi-official blog, so that I
could just point any OpenXML fan to that page.

This said, I am interested to read yours or anybody else's comments to
the metadata part in Marbux's answer.
