My guess would be that MS would be trying to get China to shift away from 
ODF-UOF harmonizaton, even if just in people's minds.

However, throwing a handful of resources at a sourceforge project aren't 
going to do much more than generate a lot of PR.

Anyway here is the relevant quote from about 9 years ago.  A thorough lock 
on the file formats or the DRM associated with those formats would be the 
same:

 	sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to
