[odf-discuss] Problems at the OASIS TC.

Hi, folks,

On the OASIS membership situation, there is a new email from Scott
McGrath of OASIS staff saying that he is going to hold off at least a
couple of weeks on canceling memberships while folks sort out what
they are going to do.

I have known about the membership issue for some time, in fact I
discussed this a week or two back on the TC list right after Scott
McGrath of OASIS went into high pressure/short deadline mode. I'm
sorry if the folks who were still active on the TC missed it.

The issue began with a Sun complaint to OASIS about the Foundation
having too many TC members, an event preceded by an OASIS rule change
that eliminated the membership class for non-profit corporations.
Under the old rule, there was no problem with the number of
participants. I haven't dug to see who was behind the rule change.

OASIS staff told Gary there still would be no problem with the number
of TC members if the Foundation signed up for a small corporation
membership because the work folks were doing was so great. But that
changed after the Sun complaint. I don't blame Scott McGrath. The big
vendors control OASIS and I can't expect him to put his job on the
line over this.

Anyway, it sounds like the immediate pressure is off. My feel tonight
is that publicity would probably be the best response. This is only
one of many down and dirty things the StarDivision management has done
lately, both on and off the TC mailing list and putting the public
spotlight on them beats kissing their boots. But I'll sleep on it.

Best regards,

Marbux
