[odf-discuss] KOffice devs plan a shared odf lib

Last weekend there was an ODF developer sprint for KDE developers. This,
unsurprisingly, existed for about 80% of KOffice developers but other
devs were also interrested in reading/writing ODF.

One of the main results of the meeting is that the devs have stated a plan
and (rough) timeline for creating a shared-library that will allow other
applications to use ODF more easily.

After KDE4.0 as well as KOffice2.0 are released the KOffice developers
plan to create a new source repository in the KDE svn which will contain
code for handling the odf-container (the zip) and XML tools specifically
made for ODF to allow easy creation and parsing of ODF documents.

There are various other aspects to this library that are explained better
here;

Note that this library does not depend on KOffice being installed, which
we expect will have the effect of having ODF loading/saving support in
many unexpected places in KDE applications.

Around the time we release this library KDE is expected to be supported on
all major (and many minor) platforms.

Cheers!
