I finally tracked down the Productivity Tools User Guide (PDF) 
for the beta, which says:
"IBM productivity tools now fully support the ODF standard by 
providing full conformance with the ODF 1.0 specification. 
Productivity tools have the capacity of opening and saving 
documents compliant with ODF and make ODF as default format."

and search for "Productivity Tools User Guide". It's listed in 
both of the posts by Jan Kenney about "things you need to know".)

Would be great to hear from someone who has actually used the 
beta. I don't have the time to look through the forum to see if 
anyone has reported experiences with the ODF support.
