And you may be right. But just saying that will not convince anyone. 
Especially not ISO which has a voting procedure and if enough countries 
agree that its Ok, then it becomes a standard.

The troubling point here is that there is no way to make the 
standard 'die'. It already is a standard and it already is for vote on 
ISO.

If you believe there is lots of things wrong with it; then you should 
consider writint those up in the format that ISO expects and make sure 
the member countries see that.
After all, there is nothing like a 12000 pages 'suggestions' document to 
convince ISO that, indeed the standard is not upto snuff.

You say you'd rather let is die; if you have a strategy on how to do that, 
please tell us.
