Yeah I use thumbnails in Docvert <http://docvert.com/>... when 
converting documents it pulls out the thumbnail and displays it for each 
converted document's tab.

One thing to be careful of is that in recent versions of OOo the 
thumbnails are saved with a transparent background (the initial 2.0 
release didn't do this, I guess it must be a recent change). See this
