heh. The fact that you have not heard of Microsoft Live Search is some
evidence supporting one of the basic themes of the Digital Tipping Point
film: where Microsoft is not able to leverage its monopoly, it fails.
Spectacularly. Microsoft's whole house of cards rests on two products:
Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. All we have to do is break the
monopoly on those two products, IMHO, and we will see a torrent of
competition in the consumer retail desktop software space.

It is exactly for this reason that, while I prefer to use Free Software
where I can, I don't get all that upset if I can squeeze in a FOSS
replacement for one or two apps on the desktop of a Windows user whom I
personally know. Each non-Free app that we take out of the Windows stack is
one less thread binding that particular user to Windows. Take away all the
apps, and you have just freed that user to make a real choice for their OS.
Some will continue to choose Windows, but many will not, ESPECIALLY once you
are able to get a nice GUI apt-get in front of them. Their eyes always bug
out when they see CNR or Synaptic for the first time.
