As you said if it's based on the same code the quality must the same. I
think Peter just meant that .odt to .doc gives better results than .doc
to .odt?
That's not surprising either: since .doc is proprietary (and different
from one Word version to another) it's difficult to reverse engineer the
complete format so some features may be missing when importing from
.doc; however when creating a .doc you use only a reliable subset of
features so the results are better.
