With patient, calm and reasoned explanation of the technical issues at
stake. Preferably in carefully thought out and non-technical language.

It's easy to show to anyone at all familiar with XML. Just unzip some
ooxml and try to work through it. "It's XML Jim, but not as we know
it."[1]

It's a bit harder to explain to someone who has no concept of XML, or
of openly accessible formats in general.
