I didn't interpret what he said as an attack on the formula spec., more 
an attack on those who are saying there's too much information in the spec.

BTW, why is the ODF formula spec "the first of its kind"? It's mostly 
just a standards-track, isn't it?

MS don't claim OXML supports older formats; they say it is capable of 
representing all the information from such a file. It's a big difference.
