Obviously, I don't have access to whatever you're looking at, but the 
letter I quoted from ends with the paragraph I quoted. If they have set 
responses to the points people are making, that's probably even worse.

Whether or not some positive sentiments are offered doesn't detract from 
the point: there are many arguments which will not go over well in 
different places, and you have to be measured in what you say.

The positive responses I have seen have some where people have focused 
less on telling the various committee members how they should do their 
job and more on the task at hand. Sending these guys the same e-mails 
about how they can't possibly standardise a 6000 page spec. is unlikely 
to wash, because chances are that they've figured out how big it is for 
themselves and can take a view on that without Joe Sixpack telling them 
how to think.
