1. Automatix is evil. The author doesn't care about breaking people's
computers. Even if you read his own FAQ you lose confidence:
Q: Will Automatix break my system? People warn me that it does.
A: Many people use Automatix every day without trouble. Therefore it's
perfectly safe.
Daniel: Excuse me? How do you go from "it works often" to "it's
perfectly safe"?
Q: Does Automatix use --force-yes?
A: NO
Daniel: ... instead it uses 'echo "y"' which has the same effect as
--force-yes :P
Q: Does Automatix2 replace my sources.list with its own?
A: No. It adds missing official sources and some safe third party
sources to your existing sources.list
Daniel: Uhm... mucking about with my sources.list is functionally
equivalent to replacing it. And who determines "safe"? You?
2. Automatix is Ubuntu-only.
3. Automatix is not an installer that others can reuse, even if you only
care about Ubuntu.
4. Users don't find that their system is broken right after they install
Automatix. They find out later when they install another program, or
upgrade to the next version, and everything breaks. At that point, the
user blames Ubuntu. So Automatix never gets the blame for anything it
breaks.
Cheers,
Daniel.
