[odf-discuss] New Linux installer

Hello,

I wrote about this a minute ago in a reply to Mike, but I don't expect
everyone will notice it.

Due to concerns over the maturity and reliability of Autopackage, I have
decided to look elsewhere for a Linux installation solution. I now have
a custom-made installer which I think will be reliable. I haven't linked
to it from the main page. I was hoping that a couple of people here
could try it:

http://dist.opendocumentfellowship.org/ODF-Viewer-Linux-Beta1-p5.tgz

To install:
1. tar -zxvf ODF-Viewer-Linux-Beta1-p5.tgz
2. cd odfviewer-0install
3. ./odfviewer

I do use a product called "Zero Install", but it doesn't really do much
for the installation itself. What it does is check for updates
automatically every month, and verify GPG signatures. The installer is
90% self-made.

So far 4 people have tried it, and it's worked (Mike, Peter, Jean,
Sigrid) including two people for whom Autopackage didn't work well
(Mike, Sigrid). The installer is a very simple shell script. I do expect
it to work well.

Note: Whether the *viewer* itself works is a separate problem - note the
libstdc++ issue Peter just reported. This is ultimately an issue between
xulrunner and Debian, and mostly out of our hands (all I can do is add a
FAQ entry).

Cheers,
Daniel.
