Hi,
First to get rid of a long-living misconception; there is no such thing as
the '.ott file format'.
OpenOffice invented that extention (which is NOT a fileformat) to mark
some .odt files as templates.
In other words; all apps that support .odt files will support .ott files.
Some apps that find extentions really relevant may need a rename first.

Note that only windows applications find extentions relevant. Unix
applications (KOffice included) can use and detect fileformats just fine
without valid extentions. So feeding kword an .ott file just uses it like it
were a .odt

Hope this helps.
