The British Standards Institute has contradicted Ecma 376's fast track
processing. <http://www.computeractive.co.uk/personal-computer-world/news/2174199/microsoft-standards-bid-faces>

I have received word separately that the Malaysia national standards
body has done so as well, but have not yet been able to confirm that
with a press report.

Congratulations, everyone who contributed to the effort. I especially
congratulate Daniel for an incredible amount of sterling work on the
EOOXML Issues document despite living on hot dogs and not sleeping for
days. It paid off.

If someone comes up with a link to the BSI contradiction document, I'd
love to read it.

The contradictions are in effect a veto of Ecma being processed on the
fast track. JTC-1 operates by consensus among the member nations. If
either contradiction is maintained through a fairly short dispute
resolution process, the draft standard is rejected. Microsoft and Ecma
would then have to decide whether to resubmit it under a JTC-1 process
other than the fast track process. There is a more complete
description of the process in my new article on the subject here,
<http://opendocument.xml.org/node/238>

The national bodies that have contradicted Ecma 376 will undoubtedly
be coming under heavy lobbying pressure from Microsoft to drop their
objections. So the next task is to run interference for the
contradicting NBs. Publicizing their courageous stands is undoubtedly
a very good thing.

Best regards,

Marbux
