You make the mistake of mixing up support for features in an application with 
being able to read and write that feature.
The odf viewer just has support for a tiny amount of the text features 
possible in ODF. Most of them are ignored. But files it gets still have those 
features and don't loose them because one application uses less of them.
In other words; even if there is just one application that supports the 
features the user needs, then that doesn't stop that person from using ODF 
and using the only application that can support his needs.

Meaning we loose lock-in since as soon as he does not need that feature 
anymore, he can switch apps.
