Most regular folks, even regular IT folks, would be shocked or disgusted
to learn the extent that the standardization process has been abused and
gamed. Daylight would be to our benefit.
Being unable to compete on technical merits (going on a decade or more)
of course they must turn any decision making away from technical
discussion and into a theater of politics or a shouting match. If we
can steer it back to a technical discussion and/or expose the systematic
abuse, that would be very much to our favor, both now and in the long term.
As Ian points out in the other message, the compensation through
political efforts show just how bad off the movement and its technology
are. Getting more publicity on their uphill fight will undermine
confidence.
