Konqueror is basically "just" a universal browser. It doesn't deal with
XHTML or ODF directly in any way, but it uses KParts to render the content
thrown at it. KParts are plugins which are loaded and show the content
inside the browser window, but they should not be confused with Netscape
plugins like those used to display RealPlayer, Acrobat, etc. inside of a
webpage.
KHTML is the KDE HTML rendering engine, similarly to how Gecko is the
rendering engine for Firefox. KHTML presents itself as a KPart to Konqueror,
and so HTML content thrown at Konqueror is rendered using KHTML. Similarly,
KWord also provides a KPart which can render ODF documents, and thus
Konqueror can render ODF.
Hope that clears things up :)
