They didn't used to be political.  They used to be about getting the job 
done, but it's unfortunate that a lobbying firm like MS can steer public 
perception to that point of view.

James Love's article is interesting and unusual in that it identifies 
control of the proprietary formats as the source of MS' monopoly on 
productivity software.
