[odf-discuss] EndNote and ODF (bibliography help - slightly OT)

You can download a demo of EndNote for OS X or several legacy platforms
here:
 	http://endnote.com/endemo.asp

The insides of the db seem not to have changed from the old days and is
basically a flatfile. Regarding the format, IIRC I used one of the XML
export functions in 2002 to allow a faculty member to maintain a
bibliography offline which was periodically uploaded to a MySQL database
where people could browse/search it.

I've been following Endnote and Procite on and off since the appeared on
the market. They're very, very, very simple single table databases that
do three main things:

1) import from library catalog searches
2) integrate with and manage word processing footnotes and endnotes
3) auto-format citations according to various publishing styles

Such functionality could be added without technical difficulty to
Kofffice, OOo, and so on. Look to IndexData's ZOOM and Yaz tools for the
technical side of importing library catalog searches.

OpenDocument, however, in its current version is missing essential
metadata capabilities. In the long run the metadata capabilities in
OpenDocument need to be brought up to speed. I see that Bruce D'Arcus has
joined the thread and I defer to him in this area in which "he da man".
