[odf-discuss] Please watch for Malaysian ODF announcement

We should soon be adding the Malaysian government to the list of governments
that have adopted ODF. Here's the relevant entry from the ODF Alliance
newsletter of July 27, 2006:

"This past week, Malaysia's standards body voted to propose ODF as a country
standard, following the recognition in May by the International Organization
For Standardization (ISO) of ODF as an international standard. After a
public comment period that ends in October, Malaysia's Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation is expected to formally endorse ODF by year's end,
recommending the format for use by the public sector."

I'd appreciate it if folks might keep their eyes peeled for the announcement
and post a link to the list when it happens. The HTML on the Precedent page
is complex enough that I should probably be the one to make needed
revisions. I've got the page contents in an outliner (KnowIt) that exports
to HTML with a hyperlinked table of contents. It requires a bit of
post-export processing, but dramatically simplifies the process.

BTW, KnowIt is a good example of why the ODF standard needs to be extended
for outliners. Like many outliners, KnowIt uses a non-standard microformat,
in its case RTF with superimposed HTML. The app would be far more useful if
it had native support for ODF, but ODF's limitations make it unsuitable for
use in an outliner. It needs document divisions, better support for nested
lists, markup for text folding, etc.

Best regards,

Marbux
