Thomas,

I don't know how much of the icon licence story you are familiar with, but
they did start off with the CC licence, and after much debate on this list
ended up with what you see.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the FSF, but I have a feeling they may
need to also be available at option under the GPL/LGPL for use in certain
projects.
