Alliance Statement Regarding Microsoft/Novell Collaboration on Interoperability
Concerning document format compatibility, the Microsoft and Novell
promised to "work together on ways for OpenOffice and Microsoft Office
system users to best share documents, and both will take steps to make
translators available to improve interoperability between Office Open
XML and OpenDocument formats." Novell has also indicated that it will
develop the code necessary to bring support for Office Open XML
(OOXML) into OpenOffice, distribute the planned OOXML plug-in in their
edition of OpenOffice, and participate in the OOXML translator
project.
