Honestly, I haven't been trying to make the installer have a GUI. It's
nice if it does, but I'm not putting much effort into it. This is what
I'm going for right now:
* User clicks on the installer.
* User is asked "Run" or "Run on Terminal". Use clicks on "Run on
Terminal" (this would be explained in the installation instructions).
* A terminal pops up where the user sees informative but text-only
feedback.
* When it's done it says "Package installed. Press Enter to finish."
* User presses Enter and the terminal closes.
I figure that this is almost as good as a true GUI installer, and it's
much more likely to work reliably. Then, if the user also gets a GUI
dialog with a progress bar in addition to the terminal, then that's a
small bonus.
If later on we decide that the GUI comes up reliably, we can tell users
to click on "Run" instead of "Run on Terminal" and I can remove the
"Press Enter to finish" line.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Daniel.
