I'm pretty sure Abiword 2.4.2 had the initial support for import/export. 
2.4.5 got a lot of work from some guy named sum1, and 2.4.6 has a lot 
more from him. Looks like it'll be changing quite a lot with each release.

But yeah, in 2.4.5 I had similar problems to Martin Ellis -- poor 
support for anything more than the plainest of documents.
